If you believe that democracy is not a spectator sport, that the renewal of hope in this country lies in its grassroots activists, you couldn’t read a more illuminating text than this one.
—Lynn Litterine, author of River Town Girl and Indivisible Montgomery member

Reader,

I am pleased to announce the publication of The People United: A Memoir of Hope and Resistance During Trump’s First Term by Chris Pickett!

This marks the first time Hop On Publishing has released a book that was not written or cowritten by me. For this title, I served as project manager, layout artist, ebook formatter, and cheerleader. It has been a labor of love for myself and my husband, and we are both so happy to have it out into the world.

Although the topic of the memoir is political, it is also very personal. Chris reveals the struggles he faced leading an activist organization while also working full-time and raising small children. Our daughter Hazel was just seven months old when Chris first determined to found Indivisible Montgomery. In that way, this book chronicles her first four and a half years of life.

Join us Saturday, April 18, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Wheaton Regional Park, Pavilion D, to help us celebrate this achievement! We will be joined by US Rep. Jamie Raskin and Montgomery County Councilmember Evan Glass beginning around 2:30. Print books will be available for purchase, and light refreshments will be served. RSVPs appreciated.

If you can’t make it to the launch party, you can purchase your copy at any online retailer: Bookshop (affiliate link), Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and more.

Due to the vagaries of KDP, there are two ebook versions available. Ebooks purchased through Amazon do not contain photographs; for all other vendors, the ebook contains more than 20 photos and captions depicting home life and activism.

Now what are you waiting for? Grab your copy today!

“Chris Pickett's memoir stands out for its grounded, firsthand perspective and its focus on ordinary citizens who chose sustained civic engagement over outrage alone. This is not a pundit's account or a sweeping history; it is a personal narrative rooted in lived experience, local organizing, and the emotional toll of activism.”
—Scott Olsen, Seattle Book Review
A thoroughly compelling saga. . . . Obviously, this is an anti-Trump saga – but beneath the surface of these movements and experiences lies the beating heart of individual engagement and democracy in action. It's these features, combined with Pickett's personal involvement and reflections, which make The People United such a powerful documentation of struggle and hope.
—D. Donovan, Midwest Book Review
